READ THE BIBLE IN A
YEAR (without drudgery) I've
read the Bible several times, but I often bog down with endless detail
about animal sacrifices, ritual or genealogies. For years I've looked
for a better way than just reading the Bible straight through. Two
methods come close, but left me wanting:
The Chronological Bible is good, but I still spent most of the year
in the Old Testament before I got into the New Testament.
The One Year Bible is
better, but if you start in January, you end in Revelation around
Christmas.
Borrowing from that one, I've come
up with an ideal plan for me. Here it is well into the year, and I'm
still happy with it:
Start with part of the One Year
Bible plan, by printing out their full-year schedule
here. Pick your favorite Bible version or try a new one, such as
The Message or the New Living Translation. From your printed
schedule, read the Old Testament portion (1-2 chapters). Then read the
Psalms passage (they break up the long ones) and the short Proverbs
passage.
Instead of using their New Testament
schedule, read one-quarter chapter in one of the four Gospels, starting
in Matthew. Then read one-half chapter beyond the Gospels, starting in
Acts. This way you'll be in the Gospels all year long as well as another
New Testament passage. You'll end up reading the Psalms twice - a good
habit.
Try it! You can either start with
today's date or start today with Jan.1 and cross off each day as you
finish it. Let us know if you start and what you think at
